Details of The 2011 Rove

THE X-Pert 2011 ROVE
Re-Define your limits!

Messer’s Truter & Pizzey Present an AmeTours Invitiation

Following the very successful (and windy) 2010 Rove, we are seeking expressions of interest for the proposed 2011 Bunbury Rove.  We aim to facilitate riders that want to make a weekend of it and those that prefer to get up early and trek down to the start line on the Saturday morning.  We’d also like to open this ride to the greater cycling community and add to the ride, the opportunity to meet a variety of road riding enthusiasts, sharing the goal of cracking the 200k! (or 300k!!)

The rough plan is as follows:-

Date: Weekend of Friday 28th & Saturday 29th October
Rides
  • 200k – Bunbury to Deep Water Point (DWP) setting off 8am
    • (Heading North in the hope of more favourable wind conditions)
  • 300k – Busselton to Mindarie setting of 7:00am
    • (Merging with Bunbury 200k group at 9:00am in Australind)

Travelling South Friday 28nd
  • Pooling to the extent possible
  • BOOK NOW / BOOK Early - Booking is your own responsibility and it's a long weekend!
  • Support vehicles friends, family …Just get there!
  • Train to Bunbury (Limit on number of bikes train will take (approx 12))
  • Will arrange informal/early social option for Friday eve – Whilst many may have children to consider, the evening should wind-up at a reasonable hour (given the ride ahead!)

Support (Volunteers sought)
  • At least 2 support vehicles that will collect all bags/belongings for riders, from central start points in Bunbury and Busselton (starting locations)
  • Support vehicles will carry spares/energy foods & drinks and water.
  • Riders will form groups of approximately 12, with one delegated Host and one Florence to each group.  Groups will be of a similar standard/speed to the extent possible.  Two or more groups riding at similar speeds will only need to be 30 seconds apart of course.

Route
  • The routes will be predominantly country roads taking us through Australind, Harvey, Yarloop and Peel to Mandurah, with good surfaces – And the freeway cycle carpet rolls out of Mandurah to DWP.  Main road travel is minimal – and we’ll consider the use of support vehicle cover for these 2 busier stretches.
  • 300k riders will continue along Freeway path to Perth and then head coastal up to Mindarie covering the additional 50k (+50k from Busso to Bunbers’)
  • Re-group at Mindarie Key for a celebration of the day and a cooooool Ale to re-hydrate.

Rests/Breaks
  • The objective is to keep the group moving and do the distance with as few breaks as possible/practical. “Grazing” can take place whilst cycling of course.
  • 2 main stops are proposed
    • Yarloop (70k or 120k) into the ride – 15 minutes (max)
      • Snacks/Energy food/toilets
    • Halls Head (Beachside) (135k or 185k) “Lunch” (20 mins) Sandwiches/coffee/fruit/snacks/toilets  - We’ll think about arranging a mobile coffee and food provider here as opposed to large groups descending on the Café at Mandurah and being held up for hours…
  • There are several additional toilet blocks en-route but these stops are discouraged as ride groups must be maintained and too many stops interrupt riders “rhythm” – So make sure you go before you go J

Your Contribution Covers
  • A cover fee is likely to be charged, this will cover:
    • Spares if you need them (not a new frame!)
    • Some fuel costs for the support vehicles
    • Lunch
    • Snacks
    • Fruit
    • Coffee/Tea
    • Water

Some preliminary discussions, and also considering the 2010 Rove – suggested that pushing “sponsor forms” under friends and colleagues noses to collect for a charity, is not a preferred inclusion.

However, there are still people that are a bucket-load worse off than us fortunate enough to be able to ride!  If we can find “A Good Cause” and not necessarily is a registered charity (or your families annual holiday) then a Cover Charge of $25 would be asked from each rider, or $40 from a family, with the proceeds being given to The Cause. If you have any suggestions or know of any such deserving cause… Don’t keep it to yourself!

Insurance
  • Forget it
  • None. No cover at all
  • Ride entirely at your own risk and you agree with "The Rove Terms & Conditions"
  • The most detailed and legally binding and bullet-proof disclaimer you’ll never want to read is implied by your participation. (Registration forms with words to this effect will be emailed)
  • This is a ride – it’s a sport – care has been taken but we’re all grown ups and all must take responsibility.
  • If you have insurance – well done. You can also try BWA for Insurance cover, if you join or are a member:- http://www.bwa.org.au/join-us/210/
